Private Lessons

Hootenanny offers private lessons for ages 4.5 and up at 271 PPW as well as in private homes.

Guitar, ages 4.5-9

Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of guitar– basic positioning, notes and chord structure.  We will dip into music theory through games, exercises, writing and coloring.  Students will be supported to sing as well as play (as they are interested) as we explore genre/style and original composition. Option to learn on a *guitar or *loog.  *What’s a loog?  A loog is a mini guitar with just three strings– a perfect tool for the beginner.  Link to Loog Guitar

*Want a beginner guitar recommendation? Check out this article to read about sizing and options. Note, that stringing your guitar using nylon strings will be easier on the fingers than steel strings.

Ukulele, ages 4.5-9

Students will use their ukuleles to explore some music fundamentals– rhythm, notes, basic chord structure and melody. We will learn to play by using our eyes and ears as we experience songs, movement games and interactive visuals. *Soprano, Concert or Tenor sizes all welcomed.

*Ukulele recommendation (the link is for a soprano size but that matters less than the brand! For ukuleles, size doesn’t have to do with the child’s size, (they are all manageable for this age group)--  it’s really just your preference.)

Piano, ages 4.5-9

Beginning piano students will be introduced to proper positions and technique as we explore some basics of music theory– rhythm, notes, pitch, and melody. We will learn to read notes for the piano through imagination and play. Students will learn to play songs by site and by ear and encouraged to create their own songs with their knowledge!

There is a keyboard at the space so no need to cart a keyboard but having a piano or any kind of keyboard at home to practice on is important. Here is an article to help you decipher what type of keyboard to get if you’re looking.

Lessons are open to kids ages 4.5-9 as a series. Lessons are 35 minutes each. Price includes the music book or books as needed. Your child will need to come with their own instrument. Reach out if you need guidance buying or renting an instrument!

If for any reason your child cannot attend one of their in person lessons, you can arrange a Zoom lesson during their regularly scheduled time. We will offer 1 in-person make-up lesson with at least 24 hours notice. If your instructor needs to reschedule a lesson this does not count toward your makeup total. The make-up lessons will be scheduled with your instructor but must be completed within 2 weeks after the session has ended.
