Join this exciting new program with Hootenanny Director Emily Casey and her multi-hyphen artist husband Ryan Bourque that invites kids to make Original Music in a professional-style Recording Studio setting!

Kids will have a chance to experience the whole process of music creation from exploration to composing and lyrics then arranging and finally, laying down the track…all while staying true to the Hoot Vibe of low pressure learning, fun, and joy in individual creativity.

Students with at least 3 Semesters of Hootenanny Private Lessons or Proficiency on at least 1 instrument are invited to participate.

The goal is to give kids tools to find their own voice. We will dig deeper into the artists kids admire and facilitate them creating original music that lights them up with the same excitement. Artists will work one on one with Emily weekly and then as a group for 4 weekend dates. We will collaborate on arrangements, album art, and celebrate each students artistry and unique voice. The session ends with a public performance and each Artist gets to walk away a Recording Artist.

This is a unique opportunity for students to work on craft weekly and then on 3 weekend dates, explore a Recording Studio setting equipped with microphones, recording software, and various instruments.

Here’s how the structure works:

*10 Weekly Songwriting Sessions at Hootenanny with Emily where kids will hone craft and shape impulses and interests into original songs.

*3 Recording Artist Retreat Dates at Emily’s husband Ryan’s studio- Meronymy Studio (250 44th St): September 27, October 25, November 8 from 1pm-5pm. Students will explore the studio, collaborate on one another’s tracks, work on their album artwork and work together on one group song.

*1 Group Rehearsal for final show at Hootenanny: November 15 1-3pm

*Public Show on Nov 16, venue and time TBD

MISSION NOTE: As technology becomes more prevalent in our lives, we believe it's more important than ever to foster kids' creative thinking and ability for collaboration in real time with peers. The intention of this class is to instill this strong foundation for life through the act of creating music.
