Since 2007, Hootenanny Brooklyn has joyfully provided early childhood music and art classes to our community. We’ve always fostered the notion that singing, dancing, laughing, art making and creating are essential building blocks for every child and every family. 

During this time of crisis we have felt especially motivated to reach out to those families that, because of income loss due to Covid, or because of greater long standing systemic inequities wouldn’t be able to join our classes.

With all that in mind, we are launching our GIVE A HOOT! Community Scholarship Program! 

With GIVE A HOOT! We will be offering FREE spots in our online classes for up to 25 families with kids under age 5! Music classes are available in Spanish! Our great hope is that we will be able to share music and arts with a wider community than ever before!

*Families will need a computer or tablet and an internet connection to join the Zoom classes.

Classes Available:

Music Together Online is our early childhood Music Program for newborns through age 5. The online class is fun for any age child that is old enough to connect through Zoom. Parents, caretakers, siblings, aunts, uncles, everyone in the home is encouraged to participate! Families are given access to weekly Videos, and CDs and songbooks will be delivered. Canta Y Baila Online is our early childhood Music program in SPANISH for newborns through age 5. The online class is fun for any age child that is old enough to connect through Zoom. Parents, caretakers, siblings, aunts, uncles, everyone in the home is encouraged to participate! Families are given access to weekly Videos, and CDs and songbooks will be delivered. Art of the 5 Senses Class is appropriate for ages 2.5-5 with caregiver. We will explore Sight, Smell, Touch, Sound, and even Taste in this art class all about the senses! Learn about Kandinsky’s Synesthesia, or how he “saw” sound. Practice observation by drawing a fruit from your home - and then taking a bite! Create soft sculptures and DIY scratch and sniff paint. This class is all about creating joyful moments through art making.
How it works:
Each week we meet for a 30 minute live Zoom class. You will receive a corresponding weekly video tutorial before the Zoom class explaining the materials and steps for the week’s project, for ease of preparation and in case you want to re-create the activity off-screen. All materials will be organized and available for a contact-free pick up outside of the Art Annex. We can also ship materials to out-of-town participants.

Desde el 2007 Hootenanny Brooklyn alegremente ha estado ofreciendo clases infantiles de música y arte en nuestra comunidad. Siempre hemos creído que para el crecimiento de cada niño y familia la música, cantar, bailar, reír juntos y las artes plásticas son esenciales.

Durante este tiempo de crisis nos sentimos especialmente motivados a alcanzar aquellas familias que por una razón u otra, debido a dificultad económica ya sea por pérdida de economía por el COVID-19 o a causa de graves inequidades sistémicas, no les es capaz participar en nuestras clases. 

Con el propósito de apoyar a estas familias estamos dando lanzamiento a nuestro GIVE A HOOT! !Programa de becas a la comunidad!

A traves de GIVE A HOOT! Estaremos ofreciendo matrícula gratis a nuestras clases virtuales para 25 familias con niños menores de 5 años. Las clases de música estarán disponible en español! Nuestro gran deseo es poder compartir la música y las artes plásticas con una comunidad más amplia que anteriormente.
