Hi Friends,

I’m Emily. I’m a resident of South Slope, a mama to Jonah and wife to Ryan. I am a long time music lover and strummer and now, Director of Hootenanny! I’m so glad you’re here.

Hootenanny is a gathering place for music, community and events in Brooklyn.

Founded in 2007 by Pete Sinjin and Kira Smith, when their kids were young…they created a space for children that was also for the grown ups who loved them— they brought the community together for music, pancake parties, activism and more. I’m so honored and humbled to keep their Hootenanny goin’ for all you amazing families!

Speaking of family, I was raised playing music with mine. I took music lessons and classes along the way but my training was mostly informal and came from a place of well, just hanging out. As an adult I now see how valuable this really was…I love the idea that music is an invitation. So won’t you come over? Hang out and sing and play something with us:)

I hope to make music with you very soon!

Emily
